Which one of these options comes with the highest and lowest utility bills? with sufficient light coming into the house. Given that the house has good sized windows on the front and back, and a rear Entry Garage.

1. Southeast facing (backyard facing Northwest).
2. Northwest facing (backyard facing Southeast)
3. East facing (backyard facing West).
4. West facing (backyard facing East).

For me, the fewer west facing windows you have the better. That sun beating in during the summer afternoons is pretty intense.

True FarNorthDallas. I currently have an east/west orientation with my bedroom's bay windows smack facing the sunrise, and my backyard facing west. I said I would never have a house with that orientation again and guess what... yep, new home under construction has a northeast/southwest orientation, only this time the bedroom faces west. I just could not resist that cul-de-sac with the wide backyard. At least this time the morning sun will not be beating on the bedroom windows.

It doesn't help that the windows that are facing southwest are twenty feet high but I am planning on putting screens on those. I guess you can't always get the north/south lots unless you are one of the first in. There were north/south lots but they were inside lots which would have the backyard backing up to a neighbor's backyard.

The Roof slopes down to the backyard, facing SouthEast. The front of the house has a porch and is 2 stories high. No Sloping roof on the front side.
