Hi all, I am a new homeowner in Irving. With the stage 3 water restrictions in place for watering only 1 day a week, I am confused as to how much I should water.

I am watering for a total of 15 minutes. I think that is too little. I have set my sprinkler to 50% water and separated them in 2 time intervals. Please post on how you have set your watering schedule (pls include water percentage and duration).

Thank you, looking forward to get good information.
Mr. C

Have my system set for 5-6 min per zone (9 zones) 3x in morning and 3x at night. The ground WILL NOT hold more than 5-6 min of watering before run-off occurs. So to get a good soaking I water 5 min per zone (that is actually grass) and 6 min/zone that waters grass and next to the foundation. Before the system starts over there's been enough time for the water to actually seep into the ground and accept more water. On the off days (non-watering per restrictions) I use my rain barrels that have almost been depleted by now. Glad there's more rain coming!

Hope that helps.

My sprinklers are turned off over the winter. There is typically no need to water at all this time of year, unless you have brand new landscaping. If we go 3 weeks or so without water, then I will run the soaker hoses around my foundation...but that's it.

hmm..interesting. I did not hear that from anyone else before.

I don't have a new lawn. I have not watered after the rains that we had 2 weeks ago. My soil started to look slightly cracked at the surface so I was getting paranoid. So, is that normal ? (soil cracking, not the paranoid part).

Thank you
Mr. C

Soil cracking is not good. I use soaker hoses around my concrete slabs. Dallas has some long stretches between rain. I plan to get a couple of rain barrels for upcoming summer. I have not watered foundation during our winter everything is ok.

I do have a winter lawn and plantings. However I do not rain the week or so after it has rained. Rain barrels are filling up nicely right now.
