So, I found this apartment called Zang Triangle over the weekend. 390 E. Oakwenwald St, intersection of Zang Road/Colorado Road.

But I just got some new feedbacks from people that that's the area to stay away, all the crimes take place there.

I was driving around in that area and it looked nice with other apartments around. Am I just being deceived by the looks?

Should I stay away fom that area? I really like the apartment, all brand new and stuff..lol

You should visit the area day and night and see what is happening. Is there active security?
It's definitely an upcoming area. I have friends who have lived for years on 5th St across from the park. They haven't had problems. Nearby is EVENTS | EL SIBIL | VIDEO PRODUCTION STUDIO – PHOTO STUDIO – MUSIC – PARTIES – AND MORE - they have great parties (I haven't been to one yet, though).
Locals like to bike around. Have you read these: Go Oak Cliff Advocate Magazine

I don't know for sure, but here is how I would check.

There are a lot of websites that publish the police data on crimes -- type that address into Everyblock.com and read over the list of reports.

300-399 E. Oakenwald St. crime reports | EveryBlock Dallas

Typically, in the "nice" parts of town, what you see are a lot of BMV (break-in of motor vehicle) and burglary reports.

I personally would start to worry if I saw a lot of reports of robbery and assault (crimes against the person), rather than just burglary (property crime).

If you drive weston Colorado into the Kessler Park area, you definitely get into a nice area.

Honest opinion- it's on the far eastern edge of a good neighborhood. I would think you could definitely see some "spillover" crime from the neighborhoods closer to I-35. Definitely go walk around the block there at 11pm, 6am, and in the afternoon to make sure you feel comfortable at all times. I know some people who live in the residential tower right there and to my knowledge they all like it & haven't had safety problems.

If you can, it would be better to rent a place closer to the heart of North Oak Cliff, west of Beckley.

Also, it depends on who it is who's telling you to stay away from that area. If it's from someone who lives/knows Oak Cliff, I'd give it more creedence than someone who lives in North Dallas who nervously looks over their shoulder if eating dinner in the Bishop Arts District. Some people hear "Oak Cliff" -- or "Deep Ellum" or "South Dallas" -- and just think "crime" and they won't be convinced otherwise, even though they know next to nothing about the area in terms of first-hand experience.

As with the previous poster, I've known people in the Lake Cliff Tower across the street and haven't heard them complain about crime, petty or otherwise. But check the crime stats and explore the area yourself to feel your comfort level.
