So... looking at moving to Frisco and just found out that they don't adopt an exemption to not tax leased vehicles that are for personal use. Does anyone know how much the tax rate is? Is it equal to the real property tax rate? I'm about 101% certain that Nissan will pass it through per my lease agreement.

Do you mean the sales tax charges on the automobile, or something else? I believe that sales tax on a car is either 6 or 6.25%

No as in personal property tax. It would be assessed on the owner of the vehicle, which is of course the leasing company. The leasing company would then pass the tax along to the buyer. I can't find current info to determine whether Frisco is still doing this, but they used to be one of the few cities in the state that did (Plano, for example, does not).

I thought this was a Texas-wide thing, but had been stopped. Ask your car dealer, they would have more details, as it really hurt the lease crowd when it was still active. I'd say to contact a dealer in Frisco, they'd be the most informed.

Dare I ask why lease? I'm too cheap to lease. It costs more in the long run.

We moved down here with a leased vehicle and our lease just expired. We've decided to buy the car but before doing that I looked into our options. Leasing here sucks. From what I was told the 6.25% gets passed on to the you so my payments (once I registered the car in Texas) would have gone up quite a bit. If we leased a new car the dealerships could come nowhere near the lease rates being offered in Indiana since they had the 6.25 thing to deal with. In such a scenario it made little finanical sense to us to lease a new vehicle for substantially higher lease payments and so we bought out our lease. I'm not sure why Texas does this. Its a bit daft since all it does is make leasing finanically impractical for the consumer. Texas is one of the only states that has this odd way of doing things

Another thing, Once we buy this car we have to pay the 6.25% at once when we register the vehicle. That is a nice bundle on a brand new car.
Also, since you are moving here you might want to take a look at this thread :
