I really had to make an account just to make this thread. In 06 me and my family moved to Mesquite from California. We basically stay in the area around West Mesquite HS in some of the nicer houses. At first glance when you see the neighborhood its brick houses, 2 stories, some one story, nice lawns, quiet and clean etc. That's how it was back in 06 when we moved here but around last year we started noticing sirens almost every night. I thought it was a bit odd but I ignored it. Even when i first moved here the neighborhood had a problem with property crime, almost everyone i met had their house broken into, so I thought the police were finally catching them. Then the Mcdonalds up the street was robbed at gunpoint Things continued to get worse until one night around June(2011) a group of kids were literally right in front of my house after a party and were shooting at each other in the middle of the street. About 10 minutes later i look out the window and see atleast 30 kids sitting on the sidewalk, however the police didnt arrest anyone
The latest thing that happened was tonight just about 20 minutes ago 3 kids were arrested in the alley right by my house and I watched from the balcony, they had to be restrained at gun point.
IDK but it seems like the West Mesquite/Balch Springs area is going way down in value and its only the matter of time before the murders and real crime start happening. Is it like this in the other suburbs?

Well I've seen figures reported saying that violent crime is actually down.

But I think people would be surprised to learn how many family's are doing financially, in suburbs, that from all appearances look harmless.

Food shelters are the busiest they've ever been and food assistance is very common.

Yea that makes sense. A lot of the newer people moving in the neighborhood are on section 8 housing. I also think another reason is that the area has alot of transplants. In just the past 2 years I've met people who now live in Mesquite but originally came from Louisiana, LA area, Arkansas, Mississippi, Philadelphia, Chicago and inner city Dallas. And not people who moved here for jobs either, basically hoodlums.

Balch Springs has been going down since the 1980s and Mesquite is not getting any nicer. West Mesquite has never been the best part of the town.

Mesquite is a older suburb and like most of the older burbs there are great parts and not so great parts. I can say the same for Plano, Garland, Richardson, Carollton and a host of other burbs. I doubt the people in West Plano have any idea what occurs in East Plano. I doubt those living in Firewheel have any idea what happens in the rest of Garland. My point is crime is everywhere. If you live in a area you know what is truly going on in your immediate area. If crime is getting bad it is time to move, if you see no crime then don't worry about what is going on across town because it does not effect you.
