Hi there

I am a recent college grad. The job that I have landed post school is a contract job, and so I would like to try and find a financial planner to talk to and help me in the best way to manage/contribute to my savings with the lack of a 401K provided by my employer.

I'm pretty overwhelmed with the entire thing, so looking for someone that can possibly help me think about the best place to start as far as saving, and making the most of it, what I can do with the money that I have to withhold for tax, etc.

From the word my employer has given me, I will have a contract position at the least with them for the unforeseeable future, until a FT position opens up that fits for me. So there shouldn't be any issues of job security while on contract.

I work in the 635/75 interchange area, but live in Richardson - for geographical purposes.

Google "Edward Jones" and choose a representative who is near your location. I've been a client of EJ for several years, and my rep is excellent!

Edward Jones will find a million ways to charge you for a "free" consultation, either by recommending you put your money in loaded funds, or set you up with an account that has advisor fees, etc.

Don't do it.

I used to work for Fidelity Investments. I don't anymore, so don't take this as promoting them because I work there. They have a really solid offering in terms of guidance, types of accounts, and most functions/services are free, like checkwriting on your account, debit cards, etc.

After having worked at several different finance companies, I can tell you that Fidelity is one of the best (which stings a bit to say as their HR department and the way they can treat their employees can be downright despicable.)

You can also look into Vanguard. They have the lowest management fees for Mutual Funds.

You're very smart to look into investing at your young age. You may retire a millionaire!
