Hello I was wondering what are some good tech companies to apply for? I am getting my masters in Computer Science and I would like to apply for an intern for next summer. I should be graduating next December and I would like to move to Dallas from Mississippi. I currently have a bachelors degree in Business Information Systems from Mississippi State University and I also plan on getting a masters in Computer Science from here also if that helps.

Depends on what you are looking for and what your specializations are. If you are into networking, telecom then you can look to intern at Ericsson, Nokia, Motorola, TI, CISCO at al.

Almost all verticals like banking, retail, finance, health and wellness, telecom, hire IT interns, so there is a lot of opportunity here. I'd look for job fairs and they hire interns there

Good luck!

Well I plan on specializing in Software Engineer or Software Development. I appreciate your suggestions.

Regarding telecom:

Ericsson - primarily recruits at schools (UTD, UTA etc.) around start of semesters, very competitive but nice recruiting staff that is very helpful and provides good feedback.

Nokia - is dead. 90% laid off, remaining operations are contract only with most being sent to San Diego.

Motorola - is dead. They have one office left in far North Ft Worth (alliance area) that is limited in scope.

TI - is a good bet, but very selective at times.

Cisco - unsure, but I know they were hiring contractors as little as a month ago.

Other telecoms / SW you may consider:
Research in Motion (unlikely though, seen better days, but worth a shot)
Samsung, Anritsu, MetroPCS, are all in Richardson but Samsung is the only one I've seen do internships periodically before though.
NEC is in Irving and always has some listings that are never filled, so don't know how credible that is.

Sprint has an occasional internship in Fort Worth and Irving, but I've not seen any for SW Eng.

Siemens (not Nokia-Siemens) has a big presence in DFW, and also worth a look.

As mentioned - lots of financial/insurance firms across DFW too to look at.

TI has their internship programs listed on their website. Their IT dept has some openings every year but it may be too late.

Maybe JCPenney?

Southwest Airlines too

If CS and seek upward mobility, figure out how to secure entry point at a smart co. in PaloAlto region (at a co. w/many smart, upwardly mobile engineers as measured by income/net worth vs age)

Same logic if one were an o&g engineer: would want to build career in either Hou or DFW (maybe OK for a grt oppty working w/clever unconvtl guys like Hamm, etc); if in tech, face massive oppty costs if not in flow at leading tech cos. in PaloAlto region....IQ and wealth tend to congregate in predictable dense regions in tech or finance or o&g
