Congrats to TX. This numbers are unreal! 4.4% unemployment rates in DFW and Houston seems to point to a balanced employment scenario - so we should continue to be able to grow and be attractive to employers without running into high salary appreciation.

GO TX!!!

With the exception of the central midwest, the employment numbers throughout the us are exceptional.

I think this is one of the things that will help us make it through the national RE downturn/credit crisis. The economy is firing on all cylinders with the exception of this one crucial factor.

Wow, Ohio had 4 out of 10 worst... Michigan not doing so well either...

Texas on the other hand is hot in more than just the weather!

We moved here from Columbus OH, and can testify as to the downturn in those areas of Buckeye State. One thing, though. Housing is very affordable. All of those Ohio areas cited are steel mill/factory centers.

That's really Dallas' charm. Yes there are areas in the US with more affordable housing, but here we have a nice diversity of jobs, excellent salaries, good public schools, reasonably safe, a downtown that's rebuilding, etc.

Weather is radical, but if you can deal with that, it's a decent spot to live.

interesting in light of the news that Southwest Airlines, TI, and a major call center in Carrollton all had stories in the FTW paper today about job loss---think we are going to see a shift--
what type of jobs are these anyway--
service sector jobs that pay below $10 an hour are not the types of jobs that keep an economy viable....
we all know that the housing market is getting softer here and in Houston---some problems in parts of Austin as well...

I know that probably in the Coral Gables, FL situation--lots of those jobs are in service industry and health care--restaurant workers, hotel help, nurses both LVN and RN and other medical workers like lab techs and phy therapy workers...that is mainly resort/retirement area with more older than younger people---are there large scale companies with lots of upper management--maybe in banking/financial services or medical sector---but there is no mfg down that way (not that there is new large-scale mfg going on anywhere in US except maybe in some new tech fields like bio energy)

SOCKETZ---if you see such rosy employment/job growth then why were the hiring numbers down so significantly Friday?

Employment numbers vary quite often - you can't take one number and assume it's a trend. Statistics. They are quite fun!

The overall economy has slowed in the most recent quarter. This doesn't spell doom and gloom though. It means it has slowed in the recent quarter. That's all. There are going to be some layoffs in the finance market as that sector deals with the consequences of their own greed over the last few years. All-in-all the economy is on good ground. It's not an overheated market, but it is not an overcooled market either. I'll take slow, steady growth over boomtown every day of the week.

Brian

I agree with that--just want to see more middle class and upper jobs--not so much min wage service sector--no way to support economy on those types of jobs--dallas has good blend of financial--foreign companies located here--medical--some tech companies--even some mfg is staying here--
