Richardson has its share of nice neighborhoods. I'd also say though, that the "bad" areas of Richardson outnumber the "bad" areas that you'd find in Plano, Allen, Frisco, McKinney, etc.

It's all relative.

Richardson doesn't have any bad neighborhoods. It's like people talking about East Plano as 'the ghetto'.

Unless you say it as a joke, it shows you really haven't traveled much.

You want hood? I can show you some interesting bits of Garland and Oak Cliff.

Hence the word "relative." Yes, Richardson does have bad neighborhoods... compared to the nicer neighborhoods. Saying otherwise is simply false.

Richardson is no "Cabrini Green" but it has good and bad areas relative to each other, as other posters have also alluded to. East Plano certainly is ghetto... when you compare it to Willow Bend Country.

Even compared to Willow Bend, East Plano isn't ghetto. The lowest parts of East Plano are blue collar, lower middle class. There are also many expensive, nice neighborhoods in East Plano. I think one could safely walk at night in the neighborhoods of East Plano. To call it ghetto is ridiculous--even in comparison to a wealthy neighborhood.

Personally, I'm nervous about accidentally stumbling into the ghetto parts of Colleyville.

Richardson doesn't really have "ghetto" parts. There are some ghetto parts of Dallas that border Richardson, but you'll find that the ghetto is definitely coming from Dallas, not from here.

And while we're on the subject...ahem...McKinney has its share of crappy neighborhoods too.

I agree...that is a good way o explain it. Richardson would not be in the same category ( similarity wise ) as Allen,Frisco,Fairview,Prosper,or west Mc kinney. I would put Richardson in the same category as Plano excluding zip code 75093.

Precisely.

I think McKinneyOwnr has no idea of what a ghetto really is - it ain't East Plano or the cheap seats in Richardson. If you're just talking about working class neighborhoods and lower median incomes, well McKinney has both in spades. Still not ghetto!

I hear the same kinds of comments about Irving .... which actually DOES have a couple of sketchy areas I do admit, but they are very limited .... and it gets under my skin. It seems any area that's outside of the "inner ring" with homes over 20 years old and less than 1800 sq feet is looked down on. Same people who make those comments are the people I keep far away from in daily life because they choose to live in an artificial world of pretentious opinions that result in denying themselves a rich, value filled life.

I lived in 75093 but had friends who lived in other zip codes of Plano. There are plenty of beautiful homes and neighborhoods in other zip codes of Plano. Furthermore, home prices are much higher in Richardson than Plano and certainly than Frisco because it is closer to the city and therefore more convenient. One gets more bling the farther north one goes, but there is a trade-off with living practically in Oklahoma.
