I know I drive by a very nice city park/pool every time I take a shortcut to North Park. The name and street escape me, but I know it is very close to SMU and Highland Park.

It's lovely and it may be private, not city -- but there are always lots of HP kids there playing soccer.

Aaaarrggh -- can anyone help me name it?

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the many lake beaches in the area. There are many lakes in DFW and the adjacent municipalities usually have public parks with a beach area, picnic tables, and other facilities. Swimming in a lake is very different than in a pool, and is its own kind of fun.

The outdoor park and pool I mentioned is Drexel Park, but one must be an HP resident to use.

You asked about Plano: the Mullenberg center is a wonderful facility -- both an indoor and an outdoor pool. Excellent workout equipment, indoor track, etc. Nonresidents pay a higher fee.

Plano also has many, many neighborhoods with community pools, as do most of the suburban communities. Might be worth checking into if this is important to you (as it seems to be).

The afore-mentioned UP and HP pools are wonderful, but you must live within UP or HP town limits to use them. Wouldn't really help in Devonshire/Bluffview. Neither would the Mullenbeck center in Plano....

OP, to answer your question, many homes in those neighborhoods have their own pools. There is no neighborhood community pool. Many families belong to a nearby country club like the Northwood, Brook Hollow, DCC, or Royal Oaks. Some belong to the Four Seasons club in Las Colinas but I think that is a really long drive on a regular basis! Others use the Y pools (Town North Y or Park Cities Y) or the JCC on Northaven. The city of Dallas also operates neighborhood pools that are hit or miss. Some are safe, well-attended, and maintained. Others.... There is a pool on Midway & Walnut Hill, I think. I haven't been there in a decade but it used to be great!

If you want to live in that general area but want a community pool, the only one is in Sparkman Club Estates, a fifties ranch-style neighborhood off Marsh and Merrell-ish (west of ESD). They maintain a great neighborhood pool, tennis courts, club house, etc. prices are mid-$200k up to $500k-ish for new construction. Just a thought if the neighborhood pool is a "must" as is an in-town location.

My favorite pool is the Fraternal Order of the Eagle pool in East Dallas. I think it's about $8/visit now, but it's in the woods of East Dallas, down a dirt road with a nicely stocked (cheep) bar and grilled food for sale. It's a wonderfully hidden treat that not too many folks know about.

Yeah, it's the one by Plano West. It's a nice a facility, actually opened when I was at high school there.
