You all should be happy Megabus new hub is in Dallas

Yes, it is a better ride than Greyhound, but the Dawg is offering a Greyhound Express bus with what appears to be a comparable level of luxury. The Wi-fi on these buses sounds nice.

The interesting thing about Megabus is that the Houston bus will take you to an additional bus center outside of downtown Houston, where you can catch a bus for Galveston.

How far is the Megabus depot (710 Davis St in Grand Prairie) to Dallas Love Field? Or DFW?
TIA!

This is great. I foresee a trip to Austin and/or Galveston in my near future. It sucks that they put it in Grand Prairie though where there's no public transit. Do they have a lot where you can safely park overnight?

250 miles to houston
car gets about 17 mpg
gas is around 3.30 right now
gas cost round trip: about 100 bucks, not including any gas you'd use driving around town.

If you got down there on the bus you'd have to rent a car, so I guess if it were a 2 day stay or something, it might even out if you don't want to put miles on the car or whatever, but if you stayed any longer than that the cost of a rental would exceed the travel cost, wouldn't it? Unless I'm missing something.

Just ride public transit or walk or get a friend / family member to pick you up. Both the Houston and Austin stations appear to drop you off in or near pretty good locations for having fun. You won't have much mobility but for a $1 trip, you don't have much room to complain.

I used to do those Chinatown buses from BOS to NYC regularly. What a blast! :-)

I'm planning on taking the Megabus to Austin sometime this year... I'm staying with a buddy and he's picking me up, but I could see the problem with having to rent a car and all.

This should be a real step up.

I took Greyhound once out of downtown Dallas, and once only. It was a truly third-world experience: noisy, chaotic, disorganized, uncomfortable, stressful.

Hopefully this will be a clean and quiet experience.
