I grew up in Dallas. I always knew there were a lot of Asian. I was doing a little research and came across this.
According to this, Dallas-Fort Worth boasts the:
  • 4th largest Vietnamese population in the US.
  • 4th largest Burmese population in the US.
  • 2nd largest Laotian population (arguably 3rd, since they divided the Bay Area, and that does make a difference) the US.
  • 13th largest Khmer (Cambodian population)in the US -- nothing THAT impressive on this one. I guess maybe 12 if you count the Bay Area as one metropolitan Area.
I note that these sub-ethnic groups are still relatively small (with the exception of the Vietnamese). That being said, there are massive amounts of ethnic Chinese (inc. Taiwanese and most Singaporeans), Indians, Koreans, and Pakistanis within the area as well.

I also believe Euless has (one of?) the largest TONGAN populations in the US, and Irving is home to one of the largest Nepalese populations in the country too... let alone the metropolitan area.

I feel like people disqualify Dallas in terms of being a major destination for Asian Immigrants. It's not as much as NYC or San Fran, but I think it's a larger destination then some pretty significant cities like Chicago or Miami.

DFW is the third most diverse large MSA in the US behind NYC and SFO.

And unlike either of them, its also ideologically and economically more diverse.

When I bring major clients here from NYC, SFO, and DC areas they are impressed with the diversity, professionalism, and focus of the businesses and local governments of the region.

So much this. I keep hearing about a significant Burmese population but I'm still waiting for a Burmese restaurant to open.

CompSciGuy, for Laotian food, have you tried Muang Lao in Fort Worth?

Some interesting stats:

DHS | Yearbook of Immigration Statistics: 2011 (supplimental table 2)

-Dallas/Fort Worth (by far) had the largest gain in Burmese population over the last several years. In 2011, DFW gained 1,029 Burmese immigrants. The number two spot belonged to Atlanta at 574. In fact, DFW's Burmese community grew more than Atlanta's Korean community despite being much smaller on the whole. I remember reading somewhere that the Burmese community in DFW seems to be concentrating on Denton county and Carrollton and Lewisville specifically.

-DFW has the 2nd fastest growing Thai community in the US after Los Angeles.

-DFW has the 6th largest Indian community and the 5th fastest growing Indian community.

-DFW has the 2nd fastest Bhutanese growth after Atlanta.

-DFW has the 2nd fastest growing Lao and Malaysian populations in 2011 after Minneapolis and New York respectively. However, both of these are so small, they are barely worth mentioning.

-DFW's Asian growth actually (slightly) outpaced Houston's in 2011.

-To the OP, DFW is a much larger destination for Asians, than anywhere in Florida, but hasnt caught up to Chicago and may not for some time. However, DFW's Asian growth is much more across the board whereas Chicago's Asian growth is primarily stems from India, China, the Philippines, and Pakistan.

-Here is the Asian growth in numbers from 2011 for the US by metro area:

1) New York: 76,294
2) Los Angeles: 49,968
3) San Francisco/San Jose: 36,492
4) Washington/Baltimore: 20,208
5) Chicago: 15,789
6) Dallas: 12,412
7) Houston: 12,218
8) San Diego: 11,178
9) Seattle: 10,803
10) Philadelphia: 9,444
11) Atlanta: 9,249
12) Boston: 8,924
13) Detroit: 8,447
14) Phoenix: 6,073
15) Riverside: 5,426
16) Honolulu: 5,020

-And here is the largest growing Asian communities in DFW in 2011 by country:

1) India: 2,582
2) Vietnam: 1,496
3) China: 1,047
4) Burma: 1,029
5) Nepal: 699
6) Pakistan: 657
7) Philippines: 612
8) Korea: 551
9) Bhutan: 513
10) Thailand: 359
11) Bangladesh: 328
12) Taiwan: 192

Here is what I was talking about. Lewisville seems to be ground zero for the Burmese community:

Triumph of the Spirit, if I had a first-born, I would overnight it to you and not even ask for a receipt. I had no idea there was a Burmese eatery anywhere in the Metroplex. Lewisville here I come!
