We saw a house in Plano, we liked almost everything except the fact that immediately after entering the house we see stairway. Our Realtor told that its a bad design. It may be an issue when you sell.

Is it really a big factor here? I don't want to jump in to some house where down the line it will be difficult to sell. Please let me know your thoughts in this.

Appreciate your help.

We have a house like that , considering that we were a few buyers lining up for it , it wasn't a break dealer at all. Many floor plans around Plano are like that.

It's not limited to a certain city but a very common design to save space and show off staircase by opening it into the foyer. Its not known to be a potential problem for resale and probably just your realtor's personal prefrence. I never had any problem with it till I moved to my current house with second staircase opening near kitchen. Its a backup fire escape ladder on top of being practical and private. A must have on my dream home list.

.

It's considered against a feng shui principle for those that believe in it. See: Feng Shui of Main Entrance - Feng Shui Tips for Entrance Staircase - Feng Shui Cures

I think I'd get rid of your realtor. I can't count how many high end homes have a design like this, on down to homes in the $250-300k range as well.

It is considered bad feug shui.......means money going out the door, I believe. My DH hired a decorator when he bought the house we share today. Although we don't have the stair problem, apparently there are some FS corrections the house needed for proper energy and balance. And so we have crystals suspended in a few corners of the house. Maybe they are there to overcome our very bad address. There is a number 4 in our address, which in some cultures is not acceptable.

Most people in DFW don't care about that though.

Thanks a lot for all of your advice. We are first time home buyers & want to make sure that we are not getting in to something which is not very common or not so desirable among others.

Thanks BstYet2Be for sharing the link about “Feng shui principl”. First time I am hearing about this.

Once again appreciate all your help.
