We currently live in Plano and have 3 kids, one of which has a physical disability, and we're hoping to build a large 1 story home that still has a decent sized back yard. We're hoping to get around 3000 feet give or take for under $350k. I work in east Plano and we'd like to stay between 75 and the tollway but we would venture east of 75 as well. We've been looking for pre-owned homes all spring/summer with little luck so now we're considering building and I don't know where to begin. Can anyone recommend some nice communities that would fit our requirements? Thanks in advance.

Isn't Murphy known for bigger lots? If you can find one, seems like that would be a good site for a 1 story build. Not sure if HOA's have height minimums for homes (ie, must be 2 stories). That would keep you in Plano schools and pretty close to work.

When we've looked in Plano, we've been focused on the schools west of 75. Which schools on the east side of Plano ISD would be the ones to focus in on?

Most of the HOAs in Murphy have SF minimums but not story requirements.

In Murphy, to be in Plano schools you would need to be west of Maxwell Creek (the creek not the road). There are a few lots left in the westernmost portion of The Ranch at Murphy and Betsy.

There are also 1/4 or larger lots in Rolling Ridge and Hunters landing 5, both of which still have home lots remaining.

In both of those neighborhoods it will be Shaddock Homes or Drees Homes

I'm sure they have 1 story options even if they don't list them in their "standard" floor plans.

How about Lovejoy ISD? Fairview/Lucas/far east Allen? Some larger lot neighborhoods there. I see a lot of single story homes and varying price point type neighborhoods with more of a non-cookie cutter type of build, more custom type builds.

Seriously? Lovejoy? The OP has a child who is disabled. There is no way I would ever recommend someone with any kind IEP or accomodation needs go to Lovejoy.

I totally agree with that, Lovejoy is not a school system for a child that needs accommodations.
