I was wondering the same thing. Where I live Krogers is more conveniently located but I prefer Tom Thumb. Their meat select is so much better and fresher than Krogers. And the meat area is cleaner too.

For PanTerra, have you tried the TomThumb at Preston and Frankford?
I don't believe so. I live by Pearce. So that one is a bit out of the way for me, since I have one at Coit and Campbell.

When I lived in Arlington, I shopped at the Kroger's on I-30 (for everything, good organic selection for cheaper than Whole Foods) and Aldi in Pantego (quality meat and produce for cheap, and their frozen stuff is pretty good, too!).

I totally forgot about the Mexican grocery stores. Add them to my list. That's where we get meat for grilling outdoors. Some of it is pre-marinated and you can feed an army for so much less than the regular chain stores. Also some great produce, as others have mentioned.

There's at least one more of us here! I was surprised that this forum took almost 4 pages for anyone to show some Super Target love. I'm not much of a foodie, so I'm not worried about gourmet this or that; what I want is decent food at cheap prices, without the sheer mess of having to visit a Walmart. ST fills the bill for me just fine.

In a pinch (i.e. if Super Target is closed for the night), I'll pick up a few things at the neighborhood Tom Thumb--usually pretty cheaply with the Reward Card.

I must have had a brain fart.

We buy all of our milk at Super Target. Their house brand organic is great.

Which supermarkets carry the best quality meat for the price? Are they better than some of the neighborhood butcher shops?

Kroger has good sales.

Walmart takes competitor ads and coupons.

Aldi recently moved to the DFW area.

I do most of our shopping at Super Target and I'm somewhat of a foodie.
Great selection of bronze cut pastas (their house brand). Lately they've had great marinara with imported Italian tomatoes...Gia Russa.
Awesome shelf stable grains in pouches - black beluga lentils, etc.
Good organic selections - frozen, meats, dairy, produce.
Artisan La Brea breads.
And then I can get normal groceries, pet food, bathroom/pharmacy, beverages, and a pair of shoes for my kid who needs a new pair every month!....all under one roof.
Plus, Super T has excellent low pricing on just about everything I get.

Lets face it if you really want to save money on groceries but want good quality you need to shop multiple stores. Ton Thumb is better now that Safeway owns it and yes I miss Safeway I shopped there when they were in Dallas.

Today I use Albertsons, Tom Thumb, Krogers, Dollar Store for soap and cleaning supplies and Aldi's. When it is hot I cut down on Stores I use. I will go to Central Market a couple of times a year but their prices scare me.

In the summer I also go to Farmers Market and buy fresh locally grown produce. You have to be careful there are a lot of ringers who are there that sell like it is local.

Since I am retired I can do this.
