Also the scraped hardwood floors made me think I was walking into a barn. We paid extra for the smooth floors (we were upgrading on the wood for the most part anyway.) I barely notice the textured walls (and their round corners) now that we've been here for 2 years. If you are planning on staying for a long time, then do what you feel most comfortable with (and willing to pay for). If you might sell in 3-5 years, I wouldn't pay for the upgrades - and your house won't looked anymore dated than the rest of us.
p.s. the scraped hardwoods do hide pet nail scratches rather well as my neighbor had her smooth hardwoods refinished because the 4 lab retrievers in her home made a mess of her wood.
I love rounded corners. I cannot tell you how many times I have avoided taking my toddler to urgent care or putting a bandage if it were not for the rounded corners....

I grew up learning to rock, tape and bed as my uncle owned a dry wall biz. Smooth walls take more time and more $$$, as it requires numerous coats with more sanding to edge out the joints. Here they rock, tape and bed and then shoot or do a skip troll, bottom line, it's cheaper. We tried to find someone to smooth finish with no success. Another thing is they nail the rock to the studs....hence nail pops. I found a commercial crew who would use screws only, they tried to nail in the corners but I stopped that before it started, as the contract stated screws only.

I do quite a bit of work in North Carolina and now seeing more texture to keep costs down.
