I am retired and planning to move to Wylie or Sachse from New York. My wife and I are Indian-American.

How much ethnic diversity should I expect? Will there be any resistance or unkind attitudes in these areas because of my ethnicity?

Which neighborhoods are more or less diverse? If you can comment about any of these neighborhoods, please let me know what you think:

Lakeside Estates, by Springwell Parkway and 544
Woodbridge, on either side of 78

Any other neighborhoods that are diverse with no racism or discrimination, where I can buy an existing one story house, newly built within the last 10 years (this is new by New York standards), for about $200K or less?

Thank you.

Im not as familar with Wylie or Sachse, but there are huge Indian communities in Plano, Murphy, and Allen which are very close to the mentioned cities. Racism in the suburban areas toward Indians should be at a minimum. I live in Plano in my neighborhood, Indians outnumber all ethnicities including white Americans.

I think Plano is good place to live close to Indian communities, Indian markets. And you buy can 10 years old houses under $200k here in Plano. Good luck!

I do not want to live in a predominantly Indian community, just an inclusive, diverse community that is accepting of different types of people.

I can't think of an area where you wouldn't be accepted. We're used to Indians here. Most people here don't care who lives next door as long as they're quiet and keep the place tidy.

Agree with BigDGeek, most North Texas communities are pretty much diverse with all ethnicities. I have Indian friends that live in Sachse, as well as Plano, Allen and all over North Texas. They have never mentioned any racial abuse anytime.

Be a good neighbor and you're more likely to be accepted, regardless of the color of your skin.

You shouldn't have any problems anywhere in DFW. I couldn't say that back in early to mid 1980s.

On my most recent trip to the DFW area about a month ago I noticed a large population of Indians, and East Asians in the nicer areas of north Dallas. I've seen several nice neighborhoods that were mixed racially and everyone seemed to keep their houses clean and presentable...and everyone seemed to be quiet and minded their own business.

I think you will have no problem fitting in and finding a place to live there, and you will need a car for sure to get around. All the best to you!

At my grandkids meet-the-teacher days, we saw women in saris, women in the Arab coats (not burka but don't know the name), various Asians, African Americans, etc. A huge mix of people in the suburbs.

I'm Desi (ABCD to be precise, I'm sure you know what that means) and I live in Wylie (moved here from California in 2009, purchased home built in 2005, 6 bdrm, 3.5 bath, 3700 sq ft for $210k) and it's all good, very accepting. Last couple of years the football team at Wylie High School even had a WR named Krishna Maharaj. It's accepting of Indians and more Indians are moving there as they find out it's very close to Murphy, but cheaper than Murphy.
