That's an approximation. They have toll points, with a set toll for each point. The amount is based on that rate, but the rate (cost per mile) you actually pay also depends on your entry and exit points. It's somewhat complicated to explain, but if you look at the map and toll point rate chart available on NTTA's web site, you can figure it out. You always pay for what you use, and depending on your entry and exit points, may pay for more. It's possible to drive for about a mile and pay for 10 miles, so it's good to be familiar with the toll points if you want to avoid over-paying.

I'm commuting to Irving from West Plano since last few months for a project and my monthly toll bill is usually around $40 which is not much considering the convenience. I guess around $700/year for regular commuter. My Starbucks expense is $200/month or $2500/year so guess I don't even have a right to complaint about the toll bill.
