I would be interested to hear what different people pay in tolls per year. Please describe your commute and how often you use various toll roads.

I will be staying in North Dallas, near the Galleria for a few months and will be driving downtown a few times a week. If anyone has a similar experience, I would appreciate hearing about that as well.

Thank you.

About $1100/ year. Includes:

1. Daily commute via DNT from Park Cities area north to Plano/Frisco border
2. A trip or two a month to DFW airport from the office, via 121 or Bush toll roads.

Ours is probably about $1600 based on Turtle's estimate, we go from McKinney to Westlake on 121, and McKinney to Plano, also 121.

I don't like to think about it, just gas alone is a big expense these days.

Wow, that seems like a lot of money just to drive in your home metro area. I guess it is safe to say that the lack of a state income tax is offset there by the tolls and property taxes.

The net tax burden here is so low compared to other big states tolls don't bridge the gap. Florida is the only big state within sniffing distance. Although to be fair this kind of thing is very dependent upon ones income.

I agree on the tolls but property taxes there seem to be much higher than most places. I suspect it is still a net benefit as you described. I also believe that it is a bit of a mistake if someone moves there and just focuses on the lack of state income tax in their financial planning.

I definitely don't want to hijack my own thread and change the topic so please continue with the toll experiences.

I'm not guessing net tax burdens per state are published and easy to find on the net.

I just looked it up, we spent $1,311 and change over the last 12 mos. on tolls. A lot of that - likely $400/500 was parking at DFW. We have five cars, crazy I know, all with Tolltags and we use DNT often but no one in our family drives DNT everyday.

Being in Real Estate I probably pay $1600-2000 a year. That includes Airport parking on 3-4 trips a year.

Thanks Rakin.

Do I have this correct, in calculating the costs you pay a separate fee to get on the tollway AND also a fee for the distance you travel?
