I am 36..soon 37 years old with a 3 year old daughter. I am from Florida and lived in Charlotte for a year from mid 2010 to mid 2011 and now back in Florida. Made a mistake of leaving and said I would move back to Charlotte but recently have been drawn to Dallas. Have received enormous information on relocating to Dallas and Dallas seems to have a lot going on. Has anyone lived in both cities to give they're perspective on the best place to move, settle down with my daughter. Planning to move in 2 years when she starts Kindergarten......she is in pre-school right now and receives speech, physical and occupational therapy so I want her to complete this phase before we move to the next phase of life. Plus I am taking the time to get my life back on track and get prepared for the move. I do plan to visit Dallas in 2013 as well as revisit Charlotte to see how I feel? Which area have better schools for my daughter as well. I do miss Charlotte but I am a city girl and am curious on Dallas. Also curious on the weather..I know about Charlotte..its beautiful but what about Dallas? Lastly does the killer tornadoes or any tornadoes frequently touch down in Dallas since it is in the bottom of Tornado Alley? Used to hurricanes but can't deal with the Wizard of Oz tornadoes if you know what I mean. Oh Dallas started talking to me as I watched my Pastor in Dallas who I watch every Sunday online because I am not in Dallas. I welcome all thoughts from the schools to the neighborhoods. Thank you!!!!!

For comparison between the two cities, see these most recent threads --

-- although a Search on "Charlotte" in this forum will yield many more.

Both cities have lots to offer. Dallas has less trees than Charlotte, and gets much hotter! Job markets seem healthy in both places, so you can't go wrong with either choice in my opinion.

Not to nitpick but Dallas has a much better job market than Charlotte right now. It might depend on what specific Industry you are in, but as a general rule Dallas is better now. As of June, the Charlotte metro's unemployment rate was 10%, the Dallas Metroplex was 7.4%. Dallas is a much more diversified economy as well.
