Hey all,

I was wondering if there are any areas that are like an Alpine or Bavarian Village in Dallas... like the kind of place where a big Oktoberfest would be held, with a beer hall and restaurant?

I wish, but Bavarian Grill is Plano is about it. And a few others, like Kuby's in Dallas and I think Fort Worth has a restaurant.

Fredericksburg has a lot of German heritage. I think Munster up north does too.

If you want the most authentic restaurant, Edelweiss in FW...it's been there since the 1960's. We used to have college mixers there and they were fun!

Edelweiss German Restaurant ‹ Edelweiss German Restaurant

If you are looking for a town, Fredericksburg would be your best bet but I don't know if they have a Germanfest/Oktoberfest, at least I've never heard of one. Muenster has a Germanfest but it is held in the spring, April I think.

You just missed Addison Oktoberfest. It was held last weekend.

Thanks, folks! Edelweiss sounds great, and will make it a point to check out Fredericksburg. The Brau Haus Oktoberfest in Addison looks cool, but I can't find a website for Brau Haus.

McKinney Oktoberfest is this weekend (Keg taps tonight). In Plano there is Jorg's Cafe Vienna and Bavarian Grill. Kuby's down by SMU is awesome, more of a diner with a market attached but great sausages. Henk's Black Forest Cafe is over near Shops at Park Lane. I was a bit underwhelmed by Henk's but it wasn't bad. They have a bakery attached. So not exactly what you're looking for, but McKinney Oktoberfest is always a good time and a local McKinney brewery, Franconia supplies most of the beer.

If you're ever in Los Angeles, go to Red Lion Tavern in Silverlake. Total old school beer garden, good food, good beer, music... but with hipsters.

Thanks... actually, I'm from Torrance, CA, where we have Alpine Village, which is pretty well-known:

Alpine Village - Largest Oktoberfest in LA, German Restaurant, German Beer and Market.

Right on! I went once but seeing as I was in Camarillo, the drive was too far and I didn't really like Alpine Village. I found Red Lion and it became my go-to place for German grub. Even though it's not like a Biergarten, I really think you'd like Kuby's and the prices are very fair. I also recently learned of a place in Rowlett called Fritzl's Fritzl's Austrian Grill & Dessert Shop Home Page I've never been so I can't vouch for it.
