I am new for this, I want to buy a private seller's car via ebay, he's in OK but I am in Dallas. What and how I do to buy from him and register to my local DMV?

You can get more info from the state of Texas website.

Now buying a car from ebay (or craigslist et al), that's scary. Have you been able to have the car inspected? My experience with ebay and craigslist has only 3 rules: 1. trust no one. 2. trust no one. 3. See rules 1 and 2.

Sorry folks, I'm a bit paranoid.

Actually buying a car online from Ebay can be a lot safer than buying from an individual out of state not using an auction service, as there is a record of the transaction and Ebay has buyer protection for some transactions.

OP, I assume you are going to go pick up the car in person? All you need from him is a signed Bill of Sale, and a signed title. If you're lucky, he'll just leave the plates on the car so you can drive it home, but if not, you can go to TXDot and print off a temporary tag to drive it home.

Then, go to your county clerk for registration, out of state titles. Give them the signed title, bill of sale, and pay the taxes on the value of the car, and they'll give you new TX plates and will send you the title in the mail in a couple weeks. You'll also need to show proof of insurance on the car before they will issue a title.

Hope this helps.
