I've been shopping for a nicer pair of boots and having a hard time deciding. Which of the exotic skins are popular now with the mid-30 year old guys? Thanks for the input.

The salesperson at the store should be able to help you with that, what they sell the most of. I personally like the ostrich look, I don't think it goes out of style.

I really want to make an ostrich riding joke right now. All I know is that the one pair of boots I bought are made from cow and I'm 30.

Are you male or female?
Is this your fist pair of boots? Or maybe your first pair in a long time?
If so I'd suggest something like regular bovine leather or sheepskin. Try on multiple pairs at a store and listen to the salesperson's input about heel geometry and fit. New boots need to be quite snug.
Teju lizard is a nice choice because you'll get the look of lizard skin and Teju is plentiful, fairly inexpensive and Teju skin is tough enough to hold up well for many years. I have an ancient pair (20yo maybe?) of Dan Post's in Teju that look more or less new.
Smooth ostrich is another favorite of mine due to lower costs and and abundance of ostrich hyde. If you can find any boots in goat leather can be really comfortable and nice looking.
ETA - kangaroo and shark skin can be good buys. Shark skin very durable. If you want to press the boundaries you can buy custom hippo and elephant legally if you know where to look. Alligator is available as well but alligator is never a good buy IMO.

My husband has kangaroo boots and they are very comfortable. Leather is soft and wears well.
