Exactly. I love red, but it takes so many coats to cover it!

Beige's alternative are cream, silver sage and taupe. You are some wild adventurers. Moorish palatte and Golden Yellow sound worthy of the labour and money. Red is a tough choice but may be a muted hue of orange can be squeezed into my comfort zone.

LoL, yes we are! Seriously though, I agree... to me, it's just a backdrop to the more focal points in a room, and it's a whole lot easier to change the furnishings/accessories/accent colors than it is to change the paint - which allows me to make these type changes more often! ;)

Did you not say you were considering resale when painting? Invest in some real art, a rug with a gorgeous pattern, or patterned upholstery to add color to your home. You certainly don't need a red accent wall to liven up your home!!

If you do paint, at least research which colors match your architecture. Don't put Tuscan tones in a Tudor home or Colonial reds/ greens/ blues in a mid-century ranch.

Exactly; plus he can take those with him if he moves.

It's your house. Paint it however you like. If you have to sell and what you like would turn off some buyers, repaint in a neutral. Enjoy it your way!

This. Painting over lighter shades is simple; even painting over a red you could hire it done and not worry about it.

To see current DFW color trends:

Go on some home tours.
Read the Saturday Dallas newspaper; they feature a local home every week.
Scan the local city home magazine (available at local grocery checkouts). There is also a Fort Worth magazine. The Plano magazine often features houses. Other 'burbs may have a similar magazine.

I like muted natural colors - rock/taupe, celery, buttercup, etc.

One of the best perks of owning a house is to be able to give it personal touches and make it your home. you don't have to keep worrying about the resale. Life looks much better in color/high def compared to one dimensional/black n white so paint your dream and enjoy it. I know that realtors & builders prefer neutrals but they think mass market while there is only one buyer is going to buy your house and he/she may pick it just for its awesome color palette. if your choice is that peculiar then there is always new paint n primer duo available that covers almost all colors. Someone mentioned Moorish style and I must say that its my personal favorite and goes well with Texas weather.
