Moving into the new house soon and we will need movers. Our things are in storage in Garland and will need to be moved to 1 story house in Richardson.
We are looking for an affordable mover who also will not break furniture/steal etc. We don't have anything unusually large or heavy.

Can someone please recommend a service or two and their rates. Thanks!

Anyone?

I've been to Craigslist and see a # of movers advertising $40 and $50 an hour rates. I also checked out some movers I found on the BBB and got a quote of $135/hour and they said they expected our move to take 6-7 hours!
I'm looking to find something in the middle, like an $80 or $90 an hour rate. We don't have very much. Would compare amount of furnishings to a large 2 bedroom apt or small 1200 sq ft house. Nothing oversized or crazy heavy. 1 queen bedroom set, 1 sofa, etc. Everything is already packed and in storage so I think the quote of $135 is pretty high.
We had 2 male relatives unload our U-Haul into storage in about 2 hours. A lot of that time was spent getting the things to fit into the storage space.

Can anyone recommend reliable and affordable overs?

Thanks!

Default move

I've posted this before. I've moved a bazzilion times, or is it a gazzion? Depends on how many zeros there are. But I've been burned by local movers some times. When I used a national brand like Mayflower, United, et al, I had great service. Now I paid more, but the peace of mind was worth it.

My suggestions for dealing with movers: Be polite and nice to them. Help them as best you can (no not moving actual furniture but just plan ahead). Get bottles of water or Gaterade. Buy them lunch. Tell them you will tip them depending on how they perform their job.

I've avoided Craigslist posts like the plague. Why not talk to your new neighbors about their experiences? Also there's stuff like Angies List and you can just google "Dallas movers" and go past the paid-for ads. Read the reviews. Good luck. I know what you're going through.

I've posted before but positive experiences for ourselves, my best friend, and several people (she's a relocation specialist or was until about a year ago) through her work used Midnight Moving or Midnight Movers. I can't remember the name exactly.

We usually move the small stuff ourselves, and hire pros to do the furniture. Last time we moved, we used these guys and they were great. Fort Worth Movers - Dallas Moving Company | Euless, Tx | Olde World Movers

Thanks for the tips. We booked some recommended movers. 3 man crew with box truck. We got them to come down on price by matching another quote we got that was $40/hour lower than their quote. We have to pay in cash for this price , but that's how we were going to pay anyway. They don't think it'll take more than 3 hours from start to finish, including the drive, which seems about right to me.
The movers that quoted me $135 an hour and expected it to take 6 or 7 hours must have been crazy imo.

The end is almost near, we'll be in our new home soon.

Good luck, globe. Moving stinks but it only lasts a few hours. I always thought opening the boxes was like Christmas morning, you get a bunch of surprises.
