But again, it all goes back to budget.....which OP has not provided.
Beat me to it. I have an es-fiance whose parents lived in a lovely home in Cedar Hill. Beautiful mature trees, nice lot. This was about 13 years ago, and Id never known anyone who lived in the southern suburbs. I was surprised by the lot size, and the beautiful trees.

There aren't any "trees" in Rockwall or Heath. It's mostly rolly polly flat grassland with a few bushes here and there. 1/2 acre is very tough to find. Believe me I looked for 9 months. Mostly older homes in Garland, Richardson, etc. before developers realized that people would pay just as much for a 10k sf lot as they would for a 25k sf lot. Also, if you think Flower Mound is the boonies, don't even look east of 635 (Rockwall, Heath, Forney, etc.) It's boonies out here (but we do have 1/2 acre - 1+ acre lots).

If your budget is above $250,000 Prosper or Argyle would be good choices. Under $250,000 Cedar Hill or Mansfield. Stone Creek in Prosper is a heavily treed community.Large lots,a bit under an acre but still spaced out...

Murphy and Parker are the only "close in" choices for > 1 acre. There are larger lots in Plano, Preston Hollow or around there but you may have to do a tear down or pay more than a million. Ditto Lakewood.

Size of trees depends on soil type and what someone planted and if you are near a stream or creek. Hackberries and Plums are just looking for a chance to fall down. They do not count.

The commute in from Prosper will kill you.

Still need a budget.

The OP has not stated either budget or how much acreage. If they are wanting real acreage, that could be much more difficult unless they have an extreme budget (which I doubt since they also want low taxes)

If they want more than an acre or two AND low taxes, they may need to head to someplace like Grayson or Fannin Counties (up either HWY 75 or HWY 121, so not too bad from Dallas).

I live in West Plano on a half acre lot. Mature trees, creeks, park, minutes to tons of amenities, 15 minutes to downtown or Love Field during off-peak traffic hours, and 20 minutes to DFW airport.
I know folks who live on 2 acres just down the street. There are many big lots.
There are plenty to be had...you just have to pony up the $.

This is not a new thing..."I want to live in a nice place on more land close to town" has always translated in muy expensive.
