WE live in NJ, and love it, but are getting squeezed out financially. We are considering a move to Texas in about a year. We'll miss the boardwalk and the ocean, the italian food, the whole soprano thing...lol
Does anyone else ever feel like they are HOME in TEXAS?

We have family in Texas who would LOVE for us to move there. We looked in Mansfield, Mckinney and Keller we only had time for 1 town each day, so we disn't get a real good feel of the area. We want to look into Allen and flower mound next visit. We have 5 children!

We moved from Los Angeles in June 2004 and Texas IS home for us now. The things we miss most are the authentic mexican food, friends and family. We don't miss the beach anymore but we go boating alot at the lakes. There are many great italian restaurants here in the Dallas area. My wife and I have mentioned several times how Texas feels like home now.

Allen and Flower Mound are really nice areas - don't know much about Mansfield. I would prefer Allen over McKinney.

It felt like home on the way here with the truck fully packed and the dogs crying in the back. I've travelled all over the US with my job and this area was one of the few places that felt right, from the start.

There are things that we miss, but that's why it's great to go back and visit your friends and/or family that live there.

Born and raised in Texas, I moved to Seattle for a year, no problems, not home sick, enjoyed the place. I realized I didn't need to be in Texas to feel at home. Texas was just ingrained in my personality.

Then I high tailed it home, to Texas. If you want it to be home, it'll be home. Feel free to call yourself a Texan.

Welcome home.

Default feels like home to me!

I am a transplant from Louisiana, and I suffered from the same syndrome! there are some great things about living here! As for where you want to raise your children, you might want to consider what you are giving up there and what they might gain here. For example, maybe their house or yard is really small in NJ, but you might find something with a lot more space for the money here. Or you might even find a community with a waterpark and baseball fields, etc...Or you might have enough money leftover to buy a nice home and build your own resort style pool in the backyard! I like some areas of town better than others, but your potential commute will likely decide which side of town you choose. Do you know what job(s) you will taking? And have you seen a school ratings guide yet? It is definitely a buyer's market here, so make sure you do lots of research before you buy in hopes that you will get a steal of a deal going in, and maybe make some money when you sell!

My wife and I moved to Dallas from L.A. this past summer. My wife is actually originally from NY (Far Rockaway, Queens). We really like it here. It's a pleasant city with friendly people, and I think by and large the many transplants here from east and west buy in to the whole Texas pride mentality. That's a good thing. It's not perfect but I think compared to many other cities with lots of transplants (Phoenix, Las Vegas, Tampa, etc.), Dallas has a ton of character and is the kind of place that I can see my family staying for the rest of our lives.

Welcome to Dallas! rb4browns I think it's great you can get to either coast from DFW in a relatively short amount of time.

Thumbs up Texas IS my home, now!

I was transferred to the D/FW area in December 1990 by way of the US Navy. At first, I just absolutely loathed the area, could hardly handle the traffic, the people, the attitudes. As time bore on, though, I got to the point that I was getting more comfortable by the day, dealing with the traffic, meeting and speaking with the people, and forgiving the attitudes. I even penned a little story about my settling in for the long haul a year or so ago. While I still consider "home-home" in the Mississippi Delta, I seriously doubt I'll ever return there to live, for times, places, and people change. If you come in with a more-or-less open mind, you should do well, wherever you land.

I personally think you would love it here. pretty much the same things down here minus the ocean..lol..I'm orginally from Seattle and financially it's cheaper but you end up spending what you'd save in a priceier (SP)city..Mckinney is a very fast growing city that means you'll be able to be apart of a new growth and put your input into the growth which is a plus..all the cities actually in Collin county are on a major rise..it's listed as one the fastest growing cities in America..plus everything is here..you never have to ever travel outside for anything..all the major stores are here...I think you'd like it..but if you'd think you will miss the ocean..try somewhere like the Carolina's also fast growing with a real pleasant city feel and your by the ocean still. Economically the south is where it's at right now..people like the warm weather plus almost all major fortune 500 companies have merged and moved to ...you guessed it the south!!..it's cheaper to do business down here. Anyway I hope that helped and by visiting these cities you'll get a more better feel if you really want to make that move! Good luck

Chitty
