Glad that, initially, you chose to reside close to work. You will have all kinds of time to explore and determine what fits long term. But just settle in and have a fun time getting to know all the areas. You are in a great location to dine in the Bishop Arts district, shop at Northpark (better than Galleria), zip into Fort Worth, do some window shopping downtown Grapevine, hike the Campion Trail, catch DART rail to the zoo, and mingle in Uptown! The best thing about LC is the ease of getting everywhere. And its safe and has some pretty water views all around.

Uptown is in the city? How safe is it there?

Does anyone have any experience with this place? Colonial Reserve at Las Colinas | Irving TX
I work in Uptown. It is really awesome. I live in Old East Dallas (for at least another week!) and it is a really easy commute so you might consider that area to live in too. Uptown is "safe" yes. I am finding that that word "safe" is relative though. I live in what some would call an area that isnt the safest area, but work in Uptown where people would call safe. However, I had my catalytic converter cut off of my 4runner as it was parked at work, in a nice neighborhood right out in front of people's homes and have never had any problem with safety at home!

But, since you are coming from Arlington, you may be more used to the "city", where as I am a small town kinda girl!

I love it. I got to check out the north irving/Las Colinas area where i'll be working, and I got to go into downtown(cool cheap Italian restaurant on main st), The galleria mall (HOLY CRAP THIS THING IS SERIOUS)
and the uptown area.

I really liked everything I saw so far, and i enjoy'd the different people as well. We ended up find a great apartment community,AMLI at Escena It's got a resort feel and trust me when i say nothing is available this nice at this price point in the DC metro area.

However, the girlfriend and I were really impressed when we drove through uptown (after signing a lease for the above community). I can see us hanging in that area nearly every weekend to come. And possibly moving there in 12 months after we get acquainted more to the Dallas Metro area. I wasn't aware there was actually parking garages in uptown .

One last thing, I found a $2 daily parking in downtown. Everything is bigger (Cheaper) in Texas.
Yep, as a NVa transplant myself, you are going to love it here~!
