Good luck! Saigling is a great school and that's a nice neighborhood.

We are under contract, appraisal went great, loan has already gone through underwriting. We even met the next-door neighbors (who seemed skeptical about us buying the house, as though we were unsure of it.) I am currently shopping for home insurance. We are just waiting for closing now. I toured one daycare up that way and hope to get my daughter in for next fall. While my son is bummed that he has to switch schools, I'm going to try and get him around some of the neighborhood kids prior to the first day of school next year so he can make friends.

So yes, things are moving forward nicely! We are already making our plans to get rid of the popcorn ceilings, carpet, wet bar, and atrium before we move in.

Welcome to Plano, VirtualM! The Plano market is absolutely crazy right now. We were looking in the $225-$275 range and there is just so little inventory! We are happily under contract and in the option period with a house just north of yours, feeding to Wells Elementary. Our daughter starts Kindergarten in the fall!

Congrats! Our daughter is inching toward closing on a house in Saigling as well. I have to chuckle as they as meeting with a contractor there tonight for estimates on getting rid of the popcorn, atrium and some flooring! SHe is looking for daycare as well and there seem to be many options in the area. Happy to see more "young" people moving in as I was concerned the area felt a little older!

This thread is making me depressed. We moved from Plano in June of 2010 and had to sell our house then when the market was terrible.

nonexpat - I hear ya. We had our house in Wylie on the market from 2010 - 2012 and finally sold last spring.. but lost $10,000 in the house. We've been renting for the last year to recover from the loss and now get to buy again. We were so tired of the drive out to the boonies.. Happy to be in Plano!

We haven't met with a contractor yet on estimates...we probably will do all of that the week after we close. We will do the demo and framing ourselves to save money (DH grew up framing houses and has flipped two, so thankfully he actually knows what he is doing) and paint and flooring will come after that (aka getting rid of textured walls and popcorn ceilings and getting hardwoods or laminate - likely laminate at our price point.) If they find a good contractor, DM me. I have a first choice daycare. If it doesn't work out, I guess I will start going down the list!

As far as 'young people,' it is a good location with good schools, so very attractive to us. I don't want a big, new house...space I don't need seems really wasteful and our budget and commutes can't support where I really want to live, which is in the city. Plano, and more specifically central Plano, is a great choice for us. I am really excited to live there, even if I do have to live in the 'burbs.
