If I buy a house with previous hail damage on the roof, can I get it fixed through my new insurance?

It's risky around here, but I'd wait until another storm that included hail to some degree moves thru. In S. Carolina after hail storms, contractors would go door-to-door offering their services and work as an intermediary with ins companies. Some of our neighbors got new roofs, even though their own houses sustained no actual hail damage.

Agreed. Wait until another hail storm comes through. We usually have a good one at least every couple of years in the springtime!

I'm putting on six roofs right now. One contractor told me that he would never go for the most expensive shingles because they will have to be replaced by a hail storm in a few years anyway - they won't last the 25-30 years promised. However, I have had some properties with roofs which have lasted longer.

I lasted 20 years without hail damage and than twice in 12 months. A good friend of mine an adjustor told me around here to wait for a hail storm.

I've lived in the area much of my life, and last June was the first time I've experienced a roof damaging hail storm (and even then, I didn't 'see' it as I was out of town on business). So based on that experience, I wouldn't just expect another hail storm to roll around soon - but I wouldn't be surprised if one did based on the experience of some.

I'm waiting on a good hail storm to have my roof replaced. It's about 16 years old and it needs it.

Just keep in mind that no hail storm and your Insurance Company may require a new roof to keep coverage with them. However, that said I would wait.
