Looking at a move in April to the Dallas Metro area. I'm curious as here in North Carolina we have an extensive State Employee Credit Union system. Is there such a thing in Texas or are there any reputable credit unions one can join or buy into? Even a local bank with a good area footprint and good customer woudl be acceptable. I'm not a fan of big banks for the most part, wasn't before '08 and defintely not now.

I'm a member of Texans Credit Union. Most people I know that are members liked them (as do I). There aren't that many locations though and I've found their online banking to be a bit lacking at times. But we mainly use them for car loans and our mortgage. We use one of the big banks for our checking and savings accounts. Many employers also have credit unions, so that is something you can look into as well.

There is Credit Union of Texas. I've used them for some car loans and don't have any complaints.

Texans Credit Union is fine but had minimal online service so I switched to BoA. I heard that TCU has an app now but still far behind mega banks.

I also used Texans Credit Union for a car loan... or the Used Car Lot used TCU to make a loan for me. I never had a problem with TCU and would gladly use them again.

Lone star CU, and they partner with a bunch of other CUs so there is no problem finding a branch

Hi,

Totally agree about corporate banks. One of the smartest financial decisions I've made is joining a credit union.

After much research, I chose Resource One Credit Union as they have wonderful member benefits. They have a once-per-quarter forgiveness of one overdraft. Lots of available ATMs including ATMs at Walgreens and 7-11 and they even refund fees from other ATMs but they do charge a dollar to use outside ATMs.

I've been with Resource One for a year and it is the real deal. I have no affiliation with R1CU other than I'm a pleased member.

Good luck in your research.

Lake

I would recommend using a Credit Union that is affiliated with your employer, other wise use a bank. The Credit Unions in Texas are not great.
