If you can't find authentic mex-mex or tex-mex you need to get out the north dallas comfort zone.

Been as far West as Mineral Wells (in the last 3 years), as far East as Longview, South as far as Hillsboro and North as far as Sherman, as well as points in between.

If you think there's GREAT authentic Tex-Mex you need to get out of North Texas.

There is great authentic Mexican food here and I come from Southern California, the land of the best authentic Mexican food. San Antonio has excellent Tex-Mex, but I was not impressed with the authentic Mexican food there. Chicago is another point with excellent authentic Mexican but less than par Tex-Mex. What items are you specifically looking for that you think are no good here?

Unless you come from Southern California as well, Ill give myself the upper hand on this one.

Right, but so much is different, to me it's like asking where the good European places are. I also clicked on expecting something other than Mex or Tex-Mex.

I loved their ropa vieja.

LOOK FOLKS.... Didn't think I (or anyone else) needed to say this, but taste is SUBJECTIVE. To each his/her own. Honestly, I don't really care if food is "authentic" as long as *I* think it tastes good. If it tastes good, then *I* like* it. I don't care what anyone else has to say about it. I think most of us are this way as well. Am I wrong???

To each his own, but again, I reiterate there is no GREAT authentic Mexican food here. And attempting to say that California is the land of the best authentic mexican food is like saying only Central Mexico has the only authentic mexican food in the country.

Some of the worst mexican food I've tasted has come from California.

Chicago does have pretty good mexican food, but then again, it's Chicago. Almost all the food there is awesome.

And as far as "authentic" mexican & TEX mex, I'm from Texas so I'll give myself the upper hand on it. Silly Californian.

I can't believe all the back and forth without naming any restaurants or even cities where you think the food is good. What value do you think you are providing besides pissing on an area of 7 million? We're all glad you think the 'authentic' tex-mex and mexican food in Refugio or Paint Rock or Sugarland or Chicago or where ever is better, but that's of much use to the OP, or to anyone else to gauge their taste vs yours.

What specifically are you looking for that you can't find?

And California does have the best authentic Mexican. You'll never convince me otherwise.

So...you do know that Mexican food is regional...just like American food. Mexican food in various cities is greatly dependent on migration patterns from Mexico into the US. That's why Californians are often disappointed in our Mex or Tex-Mex offerings around here.

The absolute best Mexican I have had can't even be called Mexican because it was Yucateco. And *that* is something we don't have around here. But I'm not going to complain and force the issue that there is no good Mexican food....when there is...it's just more or less in style of Nuevo León, etc...
