Given the same relative seating position 1920x1080p on a 50 inch screen has double the resolution in terms of pixel density as the same on a 100 inch screen.

We're splitting hairs on resolution vs density and I get what you are saying but PPI and resolution are not one in the same. Resolution is constant, the pixel density or fill factor is what changes with size. It's just not technically correct to say the resolution is higher just because the PPI is.
At 12'-14' away, for most people, the PPI on a 100" screen isn't noticeably different compared to a 50" screen even know on paper, the 50" has twice the fill factor.

Pixels get bigger with increasing image size when using front or rear projection. Newer 4K (as 4000p) monitors are coming onto the market. Issue is there are no commercially available media players that support 4K.

What the heck is 4000P... are we talking resolution?

I was over at the media shop yesterday, they were talking up these Epsons... told me that I could fit a 100" screen in my room. I'm going to have to do more research... I think I will end up with a projector over a 60" LED TV. There's just no comparison in size.

Yeah, it's almost like when blu ray just came out and the players were like $1K a piece.. now they can be had for under 100-200.

I just need a good and decent projector.

Oh - they were mentioning 3D capable projectors - thoughts? You think there's a lot of room for these projectors to come down in price in the next 3-5 years?

There aren't many films being released in 3D anymore. 2010/2011 was the peak for that fad. There are quite a lot of children's movies that are done in 3D, almost all of Pixar's movies can be bought in 3d for example.

Avatar was really the only outstanding film I saw in 3D that I would care to see in my home theater.

Projectors that can do 3D are cheap now, $2k is about the amount to pay for a projector that can do exceptional 2D and 3D.

As far as the 4k picture goes, it is referring to the max resolution, in this case, instead of 1080P being 1920 x 1080, 4k is 4076 x 3072. Much sharper detail, but I wouldn't worry about waiting for that stuff though. It will be years before projectors come onto the market that can display that for a decent price, and the only people who could tell a difference between a ultra high resolution projector and a standard 1080P one are people that have 100"+ screens. It's a pretty small segment of the population.

Or maybe they're future proofing it.
