Put it ON the property line. No questions asked.

Yes, you would be giving up that property if your neighbor wanted to force the issue. He would probably make you pay to have it replated and surveyed if it came push to shove. Your neighbor could take down the existing fence and make that new 6" his property and you would have to legally fight him for it. If he came back and put a fence up ON the property line, who can fit in a tight 6" space? You could not get thru there with a mower or weedeater so the weeds would grow taller than the fence. Do you really want that? Think not.

If you really do not want it ON the property line you better come in a lot more than 6".

Totally agree. You do not want two fences back-to-back. First,its a waste of money, and second, you can't get between them to cut the weeds, which will likely lead to small animals taking up residence there, etc.
