We are trying to figure out a budget for our new life in Texas and we anticipate living in the 75024 zip code. Is there a popular gym/inexpensive gym that everyone belongs to? If so, what is it and how much is monthly membership? Do people love or hate the gym at the Tom Muehlenberg center?

We are also are trying to decide if most people with middle school-aged kids go to their local HOA pool or do they go to the town pools. We don't know if we should be 1)looking for a house with a pool in the backyard, 2) look for a house in an HOA that has a pool, or 3) just plan to go to the town pool. We want to follow suit with what everyone in the area typically does. Thanks for the advice.

Most middle schoolers hand out at pools in their own or a friends backyard when they do. HOA pools not very popular on my sude of Plano but can't say about 75024. They are a but far from TomMB which is near my house in 75093.

There are literally gyms EVERYWHERE in the zip and the zip is not that big. Mayne just 15 mins from one end to the other. They are no less than 15 gyms. They range from $18 per month to $200 per quarter. So no there isn't a popular gym of 75024. That would be like saying is there a popular Starbucks in that zip.

Re Pools

The pools are nice and not over crowded. If you are going to be searching for a home in the area with a pool your search is going to be severely limited. The lots are not that big here so most people are not going to use their entire yard for the pool when there is a mandatory HOA with a pool that you pay for already.

But HOA pools are only open memorial day to labor day (give or take a few weeks). So if you want to swim outside of that range then you will want a membership to somewhere with a pool or your own pool.

Tom Muehlenberg is a treck from 75024 as it is in 75093. About a 15-20 min drive. It is in the very nicest part of 75093 though so I am going to assume it is really nice. I have been to Carpenter Park Recreation Center in 75024 and that is quite nice so I am going to assume TM is nicer. Way nicer.

Lifetime Fitness is top notch. If you want a recreation center than 75024 is near Carpenter Park. In my zip code of 75093, teens hang out at their own pools for swimming, use their game/media rooms, go out to Willowbend, sporting events, restaurants, Cinemark, ice rinks, PSA, Prestonwood or Gleneagles Country Clubs, Shops at Legacy etc. HOA pools and TM rec center attract little children and grown ups. Studious ones also hang out at Parr Library some times.

I used to belong to Lifetime up north but as lovely as it is I couldn't justify the cost after a while and moved back to my old club. I didn't realize the Tom Muehlenberg pool was so far away from 75024. Thank you also for insight on middle schoolers' social trends re: pools. I have never lived in a warm climate where people had access to pools so many months out of the year so it's all new to me. Seems like a backyard pool might be in order if possible....

@taroberts, Thanks for the great news about so many gyms being in the area! More gyms means more competition, and therfore cheaper memberships. Yay!
