I had to sell my car in Dallas at short notice in early January because I was moving for work to Oregon. I sold the car through craigslist to an individual party and submitted an online Vehicle Transfer Notification form at the DMV website right after the sale. I could not go with the buyer to the DMV to transfer the title. Today I received a ticket for a red light violation from the City of Dallas that occurred about 2 weeks after I sold the car. Obviously the buyer never transferred the title to his name. I can contest the violation, but all I have as proof is a printout of the Vehicle Transfer Notification I submitted and an email confirmation from the DMV of the same. What do I do to get the car registration off me? I am worried it may be used for criminal activities.

do exactly what you said. They will then have a record, you also have the name of the new owner and you can also give them that information.

CYA is what you have to do, and do it ASAP.
