Look as if I got caught up in it and was totally going off the original topic. But I had to respond to a few posts from those who seemed to disregard that my original response was one about how I don't even think of the race of my close friends unless it comes up in some extraneous way.

I think the original poster would have had no trouble in my area at all, but I guess I never really said that explicitly. Mea culpa!

Yup. Wonder what she makes of this thread? I've read her columns before and didn't care much for them so I'm not surprised that I don't like this one either.

Jack Floyd doesn't even live in Dallas - she lives in some lily-white suburb where it is easy to pontificate about race. If she wants to do that perhaps she should live in a diverse area, as I do -- walk the walk, lady.

I rarely even read the DMN, prefer The Observer. Anyway, what kind of stuff has she written about before?

Well, she's for us building a tollroad through our park so she can get to and from work faster...

I don't think the OP would have much if any trouble anywhere, but like I said in the original thread it would be dishonest to say that there's NO racism here.

Hmmm, interesting. It's easy to sit on your high horse and pontificate about issues like this when you don't actually have to deal with them. Wonder how she'd feel if illegals started taking all the newspaper columnist jobs.

Yes you are right I think we were pretty frank about that - I had included how some of my minority classmates from high school were treated at SMU. Of course that was many years ago and I am hoping that things have changed.
