Hello,

I have seen the number 3% being thrown around as the property tax percentage (high end) for Plano.
However, I found this Collin county site that is not consistent with my "impression" of 3%.
http://www.co.collin.tx.us/tax_asses...x_history.html

Was I just mistaken or are Plano taxes really 0.488600%

District Code Entity 2011 Tax Rate
23 CPL PLANO CITY * 0.488600
73 SPL PLANO ISD * 1.373400

Also, what is the difference between Plano City and Plano ISD?

Thanks in advance!

If you live in Plano you pay tax to Collin County, Plano City and PISD, if your school district is Frisco, Allen or Lewisville than your school district tax dollar go to them. Same way people who live in Plano's bordering cities and their homes feed to our schools, PISD gets their tax dollars.

If you find a home in Plano you are interested in buying you can find the recent taxes on it. All you need is the address. Go to Collin CAD (County Appraisal District) and search by address and it will come up.

Make note of the tax appraised value, if you may more or by some wild chance less, adjust the taxes to the price you might pay. Homes are supposed to be at market value in Texas.

Also note exemptions for the home you are searching, the exemptions will be listed on the page about taxes on that home. If you qualify for the same exemptions no need to adjust for them. Most common exemptions are home stead exemption, which means it is your primary residence. Another less common one is a senior exemption, you have to be 65 to get this one. The amount of the exemptions is something you can research if you need to adjust for differences in your sitution and the current owners exemptions.

Welcome to Tx...good luck with your move. Congratulations on the promotion to Texas too! At least that is how we look at it.
