You don't see it "all over Lakewood."
The teardowns with the monster houses are really limited to just a few streets West of Lakewood Elementary. Sure, some of the other streets may have one or two (I have one next door) but not "all over."

I don't see it as a problem. The houses in the area I wrote about were little tiny houses with little architectural value. I have heard they were the workers houses for the (way old) golf course or something. The new houses may not be to your liking, but they bring up the property values and bring new families who take pride in their homes. (a lot of the ones I know about were rentals)

Not to mention dry-rot taking over the roofs. Everyone knows that last summer's hail storm resulted in new roofs in nearly all of East Dallas.

Someone should do something about this - maybe pass a law to force everyone to join an HOA so we would not have any more eyesores.
Yeah, TX75007 clearly doesn't know what she is talking about. Older homes are pier and beam. No dry rot on roofs (and quite a few roofs were replaced after the bad hail storm last June). No ratty landscaping; if anything, Lakewood homes generally have better landscaping than the other nice areas in town. No annoying HOAs. And no eyesores. Methinks TX75007 wanted to get a rise out of the message board.

It's true that some of the newer homes are on slabs. However, even a lot of the homes built in Bob-O-Links (a former golf course) in the 70s and 80s still used pier and beam even though virtually all homes being built in those days had gone to the cheaper slab foundations.

I own houses from the teens to the 1950s in the area and have never had any kind of dry rot problem. Have only seen termites in one case. I've never had to have any foundation work done (except on slab at Lake Texoma).
