My fiance and I just found out yesterday that we will be moving cross-country to the Dallas area, and we are very excited! We are getting married in July, so he will be living there on his own for a few months until I move out to join him then. He got a job in the Coppell area, but we are extremely unfamiliar with Texas as a whole.

We are hoping to rent a 2br/2ba house or apartment hopefully within a 30 minute commute. We would love to stay under $1200 a month, and we want a safe neighborhood conducive to young couples. We were caught off guard with the job offer, and in a crunch for time since he starts work in 3 weeks. We really don't even know where to start! Your city is amazing, but it's a little intimidating at first!

Do you have any advice for us? We would really appreciate some guidance!

Welcome to Big D!

Lot's of threads concerning Coppell, so check them out Moderator cut: by using the Search feature at the top of the page and hope you find something!

Mod Note: FYI All, posting any previous City-Data search done using the CD's Search feature won't work (unlike a Google search), since it does not "hold" the info previously searched for - each search must be done anew. To perform your own search, go to the top of the forum and select Search, select Advanced Search, include a Key Word to search for, select Sort By Last Date & select Dallas as forum to search.

Coppell is nice town but maybe more suburban than you want if you don't have kids
look at a map

these are the freeways that are under construction
114 through the Grapevine Southlake area--going west to 377 and beyond probably
bad construction and will continue for next 18 mo or so

183/Airport Frwy--major E/W road from Dallas to FTW--used to get to DFW airport by lot of people
under construction from Bedford west into FTW
horrible and getting worse each day

Hwy 360 N/S from Grand Prairie/Arlington area past Grapevine connecting with Bush Tollway--
there can be construction on there at any given time but no major reworking that I know of

The Bush Turnpike is underconstruction south of 183 at its southermost part but it is about the only freeway in Tarrant county NOT in construction now easy shot into Plano and goes past Coppell if not "through" it

Addison is fairly close and has upscale vibe and more of singles scene
Las Colinas same--

because of the construction I would not really recommend anything west of Grapevine-
you can use surface roads to get from there to Coppell

there are nice apts in NE Grapevine around Grapevine Mills mall--they are set back in some trees--look nice--there are restaurants around the Mall and of course shopping--it is also close to downtown Historic Grapevine--bars/restaurants/movie theater/climbing gym/Main Event

Grapevine is also close to Southlake (not apts for rent) good shopping/restaurants/but also lot of families
Colleyville area--good restaurants not so much shopping--mainly families--no apts

Bedford has apts but in midst of Airport Frwy construction
North Euless might be viable if you use surface roads for commute

I would say for a young newly married couple- stick to Addison. It's very hip- short trip on the DNT South and you can plant yourself into downtown Dallas. But Addison all the way!

BTW Addison is not just for Singles- it's very hip and trendy area for young new couples. As well as singles.

Good luck to you two! And Welcome to Texas

Valley Ranch definitely.....its right up the street and is full of young professionals...why would you drive all the way to Addison, that would be crazy...Valley Ranch is North Irving.... zip code 75063.

I think you should also check out Uptown just north of Downtown Dallas - a bit farther for your drive but you may like it better than some of the other suggestions.

To the OP....look for a place as close as you can. The Valley Ranch and Addison recommendations are good ones. Nothing worse than for your fiancee to start a new job and be stressed with the drive there(getting grounded in a new place/job is difficult enough). Both Valley Ranch and Addison offer reasonable apartment rates, general living amenities(grocery stores, restaurants, bars, etc), and are located near DART(our public transit agency) depots. They are centrally located enough, so when y'all have time to explore you can head out in a myriad of directions and see what the DFW has to offer. You can always find a place, more to you and your fiancee's liking, later on once y'all become better acquainted with the metroplex.

Grapevine. It's next door to Coppell and would be much more affordable than Coppell. It's in Tarrant County too, so that's a plus. A nice Lake there as well. Plenty of shopping and entertainment. So whether it's shopping, recreation, entertainment or family living (with the future in mind), Grapevine is the place to be. There's always shortcuts around traffic to BTW. If you live in NW Grapevine though, you don't really need to worry about the freeway construction.
