Hi everyone. I have a question for Dallas Forum members who live in subdivisions with an active neighborhood or homeowners association. Does your neighborhood have a “yard of the month” or similar program? Other than a sign placed in the front yard, what additional rewards (if any) are given to the winning households?

I'm currently in the process of forming a neighborhood association and would like to start a similar program in my neighborhood.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

In my neighborhood they get a sign and a gift card for a garden center.

In my neighborhood we have "Notice Your Neighbor". It's broader than yard of the month, recognizing not just landscaping but also visible improvements to structure or acts of neighborliness that make the community a nicer place to be. Neighbors nominate neighbors. Any number can be recognized four times a year. In addition to a sign, they get mentioned in the newsletter and on the website.

We do a yard sign and a gift card for $25 at Lowe's, hand-delivered by the HOA Landscape Committee. We also put a photo of the winning yard for each month in the HOA newsletter and on the HOA Web site.

Limit one win per year.

New question: I am currently designing the website for a new neighborhood association. For those of you who live in neighborhoods with websites, could you post a link here. I would like to get a better idea of any additional content that I might need to add before I publish the site. Thanks.

Here's mine. it's terrible. hasn't been updated since 2012. Has some message about voting for or against something...
imho, I'd recommend Facebook or Twitter or something over a neighborhood website. Easier to maintain, add content to, and more interactive.
