"Raytheon Co. (NYSE: RTN) plans to move the headquarters of a $6 billion business unit from El Segundo, Calif. to McKinney, the company said Thursday.

"Raytheon's Space and Airborne Systems, one of the company's four business units, will move in an effort to streamline operations, increase productivity and achieve stronger alignment with its customers' priorities. The Waltham, Mass.-based electronics, mission systems and defense technology parent company already has a presence in McKinney."

Raytheon moving California HQ to McKinney - Dallas Business Journal

Not a lot of jobs, but a coup nonetheless. And more prestige for the area.

There goes the neighborhood...

There ain't no 'schools out' buying season. Better buy now before all the houses are gone.

Good move on behalf of this Raytheon facility. Welcome to Texas.

Looking at a couple of threads, it doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out why some jobs offer a living wage and some don't.

Steer them to global oil and gas as petroleum engineers. Those guys start at $100k and earn $200k+ bonus with 5 years. Less cyclical than defense too and better bene's.

I cant believe this firm could move from Ca with it awesome weather and mountains and oceans...its an ideal place....for tourist... apparently not for a defense contractor!

Neighbors house has been active for 30 days, as well as three in section over from them. All now have contracts as of yesterday. 3 of the 4 are from California. Coincidence? Neighborhood is 10 minutes from Raytheon.

Good for them, good for McKinney, good for N. Texas.

Perhaps the cost of living? Even at those salaries, I suspect that most live more than an hour from the office. Plus, McKinney/Dallas is closer for trips to the head office in Massachusetts. Or, maybe they wanted to be closer to the 8000+ employees already in the DDW area?
