Agreed, but the OP did ask about top tier school districts, and I thought that I would include the top schools, even if they are not in the top district.

Right...I don't know why I forgot that. Thank you.

And I did put the DISD magnets in my list. But as BenCronin said, good luck getting a slot for those.

Elementary and middle school doesn't have much data (the numbers from the state standardized tests are often useless), so you're often best looking at numbers for high schools and then looking at reviews for elementary/middle schools that feed to good high schools.

Newsweeks best high school list: you can decide if you agree with the ranking, but it has a wealth of data for each school (SAT/AP/ACT scores, graduation rates, etc...)
America's Best High Schools - Newsweek and The Daily Beast

Percentage of kids making national merit (some people don't care much about this; it's an indicator of what portion of the students are very high-achieving. If you want good GT programs, this becomes relevant):

SAT scores broken up by race/ethnicity: Dallas, Texas Area School Information: 2011 SAT scores - Grouped and Ranked by Demographic Group - DFW area high schools. Disclaimer: this data is from tests adminstered several years ago.
The race break-down is very interesting. Even Asians in Frisco outperform every other race in the metroplex except whites in highland park and Dallas magnets. They are at par with hispanics in highland park and aftican anerican at TAG. Mixed race do quite well for the most part. I was not aware it is that drastic.

Asians in Frisco performs much lower than Asians in Plano though level of affluence and education of parents is very similar. Schools do matter.

You weren't aware that Asians have high SAT scores? Well, welcome back from under that rock!

Well I am really not interested in insinuating a Plano vs. Frisco debate here. That was not the point of my post and I am quite frankly tired of people coming out and trying to create a debate.
However, what is the source of your information on "similar level of affluence and education of parents" in Plano and Frisco.

Note I used the word "drastic." I know quite well that is it is quite high(er) but I was a little surprised that the outperformance was that drastic.
