There are many opinions. However, based on data and facts what are the best top tier school districts (elementary, middle, high school) in the Metroplex in ranking order? Where online can this data be found?

Please include recommended subdivisions with the city and price range. Thank you.

I'm linking you to some pages with the data- you can look and make your own conclusions.

Elementary and middle school doesn't have much data (the numbers from the state standardized tests are often useless), so you're often best looking at numbers for high schools and then looking at reviews for elementary/middle schools that feed to good high schools.

Newsweeks best high school list: you can decide if you agree with the ranking, but it has a wealth of data for each school (SAT/AP/ACT scores, graduation rates, etc...)
America's Best High Schools - Newsweek and The Daily Beast

Percentage of kids making national merit (some people don't care much about this; it's an indicator of what portion of the students are very high-achieving. If you want good GT programs, this becomes relevant):

SAT scores broken up by race/ethnicity: Dallas, Texas Area School Information: 2011 SAT scores - Grouped and Ranked by Demographic Group - DFW area high schools. Disclaimer: this data is from tests adminstered several years ago.

Thank you. I will review the links. This is very helpful.

If you were recommending to a close friend or family member based on the data you know what district(s) would you recommend? (This is opinion and its fine and good.)

Totally depends on your budget for housing... Highland Park ISD is the best, but you need close to $1 million to buy there!

You're welcome- I hope they are helpful.

As my user name suggests, I went through Plano ISD, and I'm wrapping up my senior year at Plano West. Except for some rotten teachers in elementary school, I've had a remarkably positive experience in the district. I was in the district's GT programs (which are Plano's strong point) and I had relationships with teachers at all the schools I attended who were always supportive and behind me in whatever I was doing.

Of course, given my experiences, I don't claim to be impartial (although I try! ) Generally speaking, the school districts that consistently do quite well in my opinion are:

Highland Park ISD (unilaterally very wealthy. Probably better than anywhere in the area for your average student)

Plano ISD (Best at doing amazing things with its top students in terms of college acceptances and competitions, has great special/unique programs, but not as strong for just an 'average' student).

Carroll ISD (Similar to Highland Park; very homogenous, but there seems to be a big emphasis on athletics in the schools)

Coppell ISD (Similar to Plano ISD but with slightly lower stats)

Flower Mound parts of Lewisville ISD and the portion of Richardson ISD that feeds to JJ Pearce also do well in terms of data.

Dallas ISD has some strong magnets, but those are very hard to get into.

There are other schools in the area that don't do as well number-wise, but nonetheless are often promoted here for other redeeming qualities. You can decide what you make of them after you review the data.

You are asking questions that are difficult to answer for you.

Do you realize that the Metroplex is huge? As in encompassing more area than Rhode Island and Connecticut combined? Also, you have posted this on the Dallas forum and the answers will be skewed to Dallas area school districts and not necessarily the Metroplex itself.

The thing is, are these questions purely based on finding a school for students, OR, does the head of household need to find a job? Commute times in the Metroplex can be killer. Naming a neighborhood with price range and city won't help much with so many possibilities. (Living in Highland Park and working in southwest Ft. Worth would be h3ll)

You will get better info if you TELL US where the parent(s) will be working and the budget.

Only thing to add that, on the Fort Worth side, feeders into Paschall HS.

If you have to live in Dallas, and cannot afford HP, then Lakewood is next best choice.

But the Dallas Magnet High Schools are some of the best high schools in the country. Rated higher than HPISD even.

They aren't truly public though. You live in HP, you get into HP. You live in Dallas, good luck getting into a one of the top two Dallas magnets.
