Hi All,

I will be relocating to Dallas from the Northeast, due to a job transfer. My office will be located at 1301 Young St, in zipcode 75202. My salary will be in the mid 90's and I'm in my early 30's and single; therefore, I'd like to reside in a lively cosmopolitan area of Dallas in close proximity to work, stores and entertainment. I would prefer to live around a racially diverse mix of people (I'm African American). Also, ideally, I'd like my commute to be within a 10-15 minute walk or drive from my office location.

Which neighborhoods in Dallas should I target? I won't be relocating until the end of the summer, therefore, I have plenty of time to visit and explore any areas that I'm curious about, prior to my official move from the DC metro area.

Thanks in advance for your assistance!

You sound like perfect Uptown resident material. But if you want to stay closer in downtown, maybe look in the Farmer's Market area (around Canton St.) or consider a loft in Deep Ellum.

What part of the DC area are you in right now? I moved here from there and so knowing what neighborhoods you like in the DC Metro area might help.

Uptown, downtown, The Cedars, Knox-Henderson, North Oak Cliff, & Oak Lawn could all be great fits for you. These are the "in town" neifhborboods that loop around downtown. Do a search. Many previous threads describing the feel & residents of each.

FWIW: Just remember that Dallas gets pretty hot in the summer and surrounded by concrete can make for a very warm evening if you're thinking sitting out on a balcony or outdoor area. So you may want to take that in consideration when making an apt. choice.

Good luck!
