Hi, I am very interested to find out if there are many MCM homes in the Dallas area. I know there has been a lot of discussion about them throughout SA, but how about the Dallas area?

They're scattered around the city but we don't have concentrated neighborhoods like the ones full of Eichler's in California, for example - darnit! There are nice MCM homes mixed in various neighborhoods like the Wynnewood area of Oak Cliff and the storybook streets (forgot the name of the neighborhood but the streets are called Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Snow White, etc.) near Midway & Royal. Those are two areas that pop into my mind and there are other really nice MCM homes nested in the hills and ravines along Colorado Blvd. and that general area of Oak Cliff, too. I LOVE that style of home and am glad they're appreciated by many - unfortunately not by enough, though, who prefer mock Tudors and the like. I have a subscription to Atomic Ranch magazine - it's great.

We have some scattered around Lakewood, but I would say there are more south, east and north of the lake..there have been stories in the dallasnews.com site and I have a friend who owns Century Modern furniture store in Deep Ellum: Retro Style Mid Century Modern Furniture Knoll Herman Miller Dunbar I imagine they could be of help.. Actually, there's a huge neighborhood of them in Old Lake Highlands and their 3rd annual home tour will be this Spring.

There are a couple of new builds on Peavy - 701, 703 & 705, and 9217 Peninsula in zip 75218. There was a gorgeous, beautifully maintained MCM on Woodgrove, just south of NW Hwy and by Buckner Park. It must have sold.

Default Mid-century Modern homes in Dallas

There are several great pockets of Mid-century Modern homes in all price ranges around Dallas. You just have to know where to look. I am a realtor specializing in Mid-century Modern homes. I especially like to deal in the more modest "affordable" MCM homes.

Are you kidding? It's better than Southern California. The authority: www.cosmicool.com (he's removed a ton of houses though).

There's a McMansion page too: http://www.cosmicool.com/wonders/index.html
