G'day! It looks like me and the family will be moving to Dallas sometime in the next 6 months for work reasons. I've been trying to figure out where to live when we move and hoped some of you good folks might be able to make some suggestions. The details are:

- I'll be working in the uptown area
- I don't mind up to 30 minutes commute either way
- one 5 year old boy needs a school - public or private, both possible
- we can pay up to 1,000,000$ for a house

Any and all suggestions gratefully received.

Look at Lakewood - east of Abrams, north of Gaston - over to the shore of White Rock Lake.

Look at Greenway Park - west of Tollway, around University Blvd., I forget the north and south boundaries.

Look north of NW Hwy. west of Preston or Hillcrest thru Royal.

Look off Inwood north of Lover's Lane thru and past Royal.

Look in University Park if you don't want to use private schools (why pay HP-ISD property taxes if you aren't going to use the schools), and $1,000,000 doesn't buy you much in University Park anyhow.

At least check out Forest Hills - south of the Garland near the Arboretum.

I'd stay inside the loop (635) and consider both public and private schools. Highland Park, University Park, Preston Hollow, North Dallas, or Lakewood areas.

Edited to add - Bluffview and Devonshire areas are nice, too.

Thanks for the tips. It's funny when you say 1M doesn't buy much, where I come from, this looks like a lot of house for that amount:

Search 150,000+ MLS Real Estate Listings. Easy, lots of pictures (http://www.readyrealestate.com/tx_ntreis/search.cfm?action=email_listing_detail&property_id =10874263 - broken link)

That's a duplex at 3200+ sq. feet. It looks nice though.

there are some large like 4 story houses by the four seasons in Las Collinas (which is in Irving) I'm not sure what they go for though. It by North Lake College sorta of in between the two.
There also is Hackberry Creek also in Las Collinas, the area is very nice. Not many new houses, uhh they're like 300-600k though. Your Best bet is to come see the Area. Plano, Coppell, Highland park, and North Dallas have some very nice areas too, probably better the Las Collinas, especially in highland park.

Lakewood/M-Streets/East Dallas is a good area. Check out 75214 and 75206.

Park Cities (comprised of the cities Highland Park and University Park) are also good. Check out the 75205 and 75225 zip codes.
Also North Dallas (south of 635) in general is good.

Do yourself a favor, get in contact with a Real Estate relocation specialist. They can do the leg work for you, as opposed to you trying to figure things out in an unfamiliar area.
