RELO-to-IRVING**Need Help finding an APARTMENT!!! (West, Howe: apartments, lease, violent crime)

Hi, I'm relocating in 2 months to Irving for a job. I will be working on West John Carpenter Fwy and need help choosing an apartment that's close to work but also quiet and safe for a single 40+ female with no kids. Any suggestions??? PLEASE help. Interested in ONE bedroom w/ updated amenities & covered parking if possible. Thanks for your help!!

What is your budget ? The La Villita area has some nice apartments with garages and there is a brand new complex on Royal Ln just east of MacArthur.
There are also many nice apartments in downtown Las Colinas right on the DART rail line.

You will want to live in the Las Colinas section of Irving because its near your job. The "core" area of LC has a man made lake called Lake Carolyn, and also a rail station. My friend, a single gal in her early 50's has lived at The Shores Apts. for 7 years. It is quiet, and has lots of longer term residents. Probably the least expensive on the lake (she has a lakeside apt) because the units are older. However they have had a management change and she will be moving to Chapparral Apts. after the holidays when her lease expires. Chapparrel is not in the downtown section of Las Colinas but just a bit south on O'Connor. Its a more conventional apt. complex -- but is gated. She says she loved the old management team and wants to relocate there because they were very responsive and the new management is awful.

You will probably want to use an apartment locator service. They are free to you and the apartment you choose pays their fee. There are many of them around the DFW area.

Irving boy here: give us an idea of your price range, and we can advise you. There are about a bazillion perfectly acceptable options which would suit the basics. While Irving suffers from relatively high property crime compared to the more affluent suburbs, violent crime is actually surprisingly low here, well below the national average, and basic safety is for the most part a non-issue.

Thanks for all the replies!! My price point is $800 to $1000 but, I'm not opposed to short commute from a nearby area(which one) is the question????

You've an embarrassment of options at that price range. Shores of Las Colinas, Eagle Crest, or Villas of Beaver Creek, any of those should suit you fine. Shadows of Cottonwood would also work for your range, though bumping the high side.

Take a weekend or so to visit the area for an opportunity to choose your apartment. Or, make the move and stay at a weekly suite to complete the task. They'll need a few/couple/one or two days to process the app.
