I am looking to move to Dallas from Portland. Wanted to get some idea bout the job market especially the IT job market out in Dallas? Is Dallas a stable market and is the place good for professionals like me. I am a java/perl software engineer with 10+ experience.

Anyone has any idea how the job market compares for Dallas with SFO?

The East Coast is more or less know as the leader in the IT industry in the US, however Dallas has a very strong IT Market. IF you haven't already check out Dice and you'll see quiet a significant # of IT related jobs. I've never had, nor heard of anyone, having issues landing IT jobs in the DFW area. I get recruiters knocking down my door on a weekly basis. GL!

Dallas is more than a stable market. We have fully recovered from the great recession job and housing wise. The beauty of 50 states with different gov approaches if you can have those failing economically and those thriving and everything in between. Tx is thriving despite what you may hear in the local or national press. Well to Tx.. yes we have lots of IT jobs

I am a hiring manager in a large shop. Just hired 4 new java programmers this quarter.

Java is hot right now in Dallas. You should have no problem getting a job.

I would contact one of the temp agencies in town and talk to their recruiter - they can give you the best advice.

Be prepared to be tested.
