What is the best way? Will be leaving around 8am. Drive up 121 to Dallas Tollway to UTSW. Or drive to the Northwest plano park and ride and take the dart bus and have to make 2 transfers and more than double the commute time? Driving more than 50 miles total a day stinks, but a 2.5 hr total commute time on the dart seems miserable as well.

1. Move.

Otherwise,

2. Driving via 121 to DNT to UTSW is going to be your fastest and best option.

3. If you're going to do DART, I would drive to the Parker Rd station in E. Plano, rather than mess with the Park and Ride, and have to endure a bus PLUS two train rides. DART trains are OK, but DART buses are a beating.

4. Still with the DART, it might be feasible to drive on 121 all the way west to one of the end stops of the Green Line. From there, it's a direct (no transfer) rail shot to UTSW. You'd probably have to drive that a time or two to see if traffic makes that doable or not.

The DART deal is out. More or less no one can make sense of that commute.

121 to DNT to Wycliff and then up Maple to Medical District Drive and reverse in the afternoon is no walk in the park either - but at least you'll save a lot of time.

Might you be able to move?

Thanks for the responses. I'll only be doing this for 3 weeks, but this wont be fun. How is rush hr traffic on the DNT in the mornings?

Can you leave a little earlier, like 7:30 am?

OK that's better. You can make any of those options work for three weeks.

I've been doing this (Plano - UTSW) for almost 3 years now (and more from other locations), so for 3 weeks you'll survive! SB DNT in the morning is , well, better than NB DNT in the evening... The worst part in the morning is between Parker and 635, and in the evening Wycliff-635 is usually not great either but 635 to Parker is just at a standstill.

What part of UTSW campus and what time do you need to be there? Very good advice above on Wycliff-Maple. It is kind of aggravating in the afternoon with all the unprotected left turns on maple but still better than everything involving Inwood and such.

Take the DART orange line from the Parker Road station. It runs peak hours on weekdays only, but you could check the schedule and see if it works for you. Stops at the Southwestern Medical District station.

I will be at North Campus. No specific time, but I have to drop my mom off at work near 121 and spring creek (since we only have 1 car in the house) by 8am. Which is why I cant use the Dart rail since its in the opposite direction.

Would driving down Midway be better than than DNT?

I don't think so. Amongst other pinch points further north, 635 and Midway is bad news because of the 635 rebuild. The city is doing a series of repairs on Midway from 635 south to Royal - this means portions of some lanes are always blocked. Also you'd have to navigate around Love Field.

I think the best plan is to ask your mom if you can drop her off at 7:30 instead of 8:00.
